Selfridges is the yellow-bag department store most people visit for designer names, but it also sells its own food and homeware under Selfridges Selection and Selfridges Edit. Those labels are the cheapest way to give something in the yellow bag, and at Christmas they cover hampers, panettone, trees and wrapping paper.

This guide picks six own-label and exclusive products that suit a present. Selfridges publishes no customer reviews on its product pages, so the weaknesses here come from the product terms themselves and from what buyers say on Trustpilot. The short advice: most food cannot be returned, the change-of-mind window is only 14 days, and service complaints are frequent.

The Classic Christmas Hamper – 6 Items Included

The smallest of Selfridges’ wicker Christmas hampers: two bottles of own-label wine, a pudding, a mini panettone, truffles and a musical biscuit tin.

Selfridges’ hamper range runs from this one to a 95-item basket at £5,000, and the Classic is the sensible entry point. It arrives in a 16-inch wicker basket with a Selfridges Selection Malbec and Pinot Grigio, a 454g Christmas pudding, a 110g mini panettone, a hanging bauble of salted caramel truffles and a musical biscuit tin. Everything inside is own label, which is the point: it is a Selfridges present, not a box of other people’s brands.

Read the small print before ordering. The page says items may be swapped for stock or seasonal reasons, so the hamper you receive may not match the list. It also says the hamper cannot be exchanged or refunded unless faulty. Half the value is in two bottles of wine, so it suits a drinker more than a family.

Suits you if

  • You want a recognisable Selfridges present under £150
  • The recipient drinks wine

  • You need the exact contents listed

Clotted Cream Shortbread Biscuits 200g

Small food gifts are where Selfridges’ own label makes the most sense. These are all-butter shortbread biscuits made with clotted cream, labelled suitable for vegetarians, with the United Kingdom as country of origin. The ingredient list is short: flour, butter, sugar, cornflour, clotted cream and salt.

The weakness is value for the biscuit itself. At this price you are paying for the name on the packet, and the 200g pack is modest beside supermarket premium shortbread. Like most of the food hall, it cannot be exchanged or refunded unless faulty. Order it with something else, too: delivery is only free over £150 unless you have a Selfridges+ subscription, so a single packet by post makes little sense.

Suits you if

  • You want a small present with a Selfridges label
  • You are adding to a larger order

Look elsewhere if

  • You are buying biscuits for yourself

Classic Panettone 1000g

A kilo panettone feeds a table, and this is Selfridges’ plain version, made in Italy with candied orange peel, raisins, butter, egg yolk, citrus honey and natural yeast. Selfridges sells flavoured alternatives too, including Moscato and matcha versions, but the classic is the one most guests will eat.

There are two drawbacks. The first is price: Italian panettone of this size is now sold widely in supermarkets and delis for less, and the Selfridges label is a large part of what you pay for. The second is the returns rule. The page states that, for hygiene reasons, it cannot be exchanged or refunded unless faulty. Check the allergen list too: it contains gluten, milk and egg.

Suits you if

  • You are hosting and want a showpiece
  • You like a classic fruit panettone

Look elsewhere if

  • You can buy a similar Italian panettone locally
  • Someone at the table avoids egg or milk

Japanese Matcha Green Tea 30g

A 30g tin of matcha powder under Selfridges’ own label, with a gift-set version and a hojicha sister on the same shelf.

Matcha is a fashionable present, and Selfridges’ own tin is a simpler buy than choosing between specialist brands. The ingredient list is one word, green tea, and the page suggests half a teaspoon whisked into a paste with hot water, then topped up with water or milk. A gift set and a roasted hojicha are sold alongside.

One detail caught our eye. Despite the name, the page lists the country of origin as the United Kingdom, which most likely reflects where it was packed rather than grown, and it gives no grade (ceremonial or culinary). Serious matcha drinkers will want both. At 30g it is also a small tin for the price, and it cannot be returned unless faulty.

Suits you if

  • You want a stylish, small food gift
  • The recipient drinks matcha lattes

  • You care about matcha grade and farm

Amuseables Selfridges Bag

Not every good Selfridges buy is its own label. This is a Jellycat, but an exclusive one: a plush version of the yellow Selfridges shopping bag, with embroidered face, two top handles and a single compartment, made to celebrate 25 years of Jellycat at Selfridges. It works with Jellycat’s bag charms and is big enough for a mini plush or a phone and keys.

Size is the weakness. It is 18cm high and 20cm wide, so it is a novelty bag for a child or a collector rather than something to carry daily, and it is polyester throughout. Unlike the food in this guide it can be returned, but only within 14 days of delivery, which matters if you are buying for Christmas in October.

Suits you if

  • The recipient collects Jellycat
  • You want something only Selfridges sells

  • You want a practical everyday bag

Pre-Lit Raemoir Pine Artificial Christmas Tree 7ft

The Edit label is its own range of trees, baubles and wrapping. The Raemoir is a 7ft pre-lit pine in synthetic fibre with hinged branches, which fold down rather than hooking on one by one, eight LED light settings, a UK plug, a 5m cord and a metal stand.

The weakness is mostly price and the thin detail. At £485 it costs as much as a premium artificial tree, yet the Selfridges page gives no branch-tip count, bulb number or warranty length. Returns are free but must be arranged within 14 days of delivery, so unbox and light it as soon as it arrives rather than waiting for December.

Suits you if

  • You want a pre-lit tree with no fiddly lights
  • Ceilings are high enough for 210cm

Look elsewhere if

  • You want bulb counts and a warranty in writing
  • You buy decorations in December

Working out which one is yours

1Know which products cannot come back

Most Selfridges Selection food carries a line at the bottom of its description saying it cannot be exchanged or refunded unless faulty, and the canvas wine carrier bag says the same on hygiene grounds. Hampers are included. Clothing, toys and decorations can be returned, but only within 14 days. If you are not certain about a food gift, buy it in store where you can see it first.

2Do the delivery maths before you check out

UK delivery is free on orders over £150, all by DPD. Below that it is charged, and Selfridges+ UK costs £10 for a year of unlimited next-day, standard and nominated delivery. If you will place two or more small orders this Christmas, the subscription pays for itself. If you will buy once, add to the basket until you pass £150 or collect in store.

3Exchange in store, refund by post

Selfridges only exchanges items at its store Click & Collect desks, not by post or courier, so a size swap means a refund and a new order if you live far from one of its four stores. Orders paid with Klarna cannot be returned or exchanged in store at all. A few designer brands, including Prada and Christian Louboutin, set their own return rules.

Where Selfridges wins, and where rivals do

The case for Selfridges is the experience and the label. Its own-brand food and Christmas ranges carry the yellow branding people want on a present, its exclusives cannot be bought elsewhere, and returns, when allowed, are free by Royal Mail, DPD collection or at its four stores. Selfridges+ makes delivery cheap for regular buyers.

Rivals win on almost everything practical. Liberty London has a similar gift-giving pull, John Lewis & Partners has longer returns and much better published product detail, and Marks & Spencer does hampers and panettone for less. Selfridges’ service record is poor: its Trustpilot score was 1.6 when we checked, from a few thousand reviews, and October’s one-star reviews were dominated by its fragrance advent calendar launch, with buyers describing hours in an online queue, cancelled orders and calendars resold by bots. Others report refunds chased through an AI assistant.

Quick questions

Does Selfridges have customer reviews on its products?

Not on the product pages we read in October 2026, which is unusual for a large retailer. That makes the product descriptions, the returns terms and outside review sites more important. For own-label food, the ingredient and origin details are thorough; for decorations and homeware they are thin, so ask in store or by phone if a specific detail matters.

Can I build my own Selfridges hamper?

Yes. The hamper pages invite you to call 0207 318 3458 or email hampers@selfridges.co.uk to arrange a bespoke hamper with the in-house team. Ready-made hampers run from the six-item Classic in this guide to a 95-item version, and like the rest of the food hall they cannot be refunded unless faulty, so be sure of your choice.

Is Selfridges+ worth £10?

For most UK shoppers who order more than once a year, probably. It covers unlimited next-day, standard and nominated delivery for 12 months, while free delivery without it only starts at £150. The catch is that during peak periods Selfridges may limit deliveries to the standard service, so do not count on next day in the last week before Christmas.

Rivals worth a look

  • Liberty London has the same gift-shop pull in a smaller, more personal store, with its own print and fabric lines.
  • John Lewis & Partners gives far more product detail, customer reviews and a longer returns window on similar homeware.
  • Marks & Spencer sells Christmas hampers, panettone and shortbread for considerably less, with stores everywhere.
