Sweaty Betty is the British activewear brand that made £88 leggings feel normal. It suits women who exercise often enough to care about a waistband that stays put, and who are willing to wait for a promotion before paying.

This guide covers six things from the UK range: three pairs of leggings and three sports bras, chosen for the size and quality of their review record, plus one coat we would leave alone. The headline advice is to read each product page’s fit line before the price, because several tell you to size up, and to expect delivery to be the weak link. The recent one-star reviews are dominated by parcels that never arrived.

Power Workout Leggings

Sweaty Betty’s bestselling gym leggings, with a zipped phone pocket, an internal drawcord and more reviews than almost any legging on the high street.

These are the reason most people go to Sweaty Betty. The black full-length pair averaged 4.6 from more than 23,000 reviews when we read the page. They are 62% polyamide and 38% elastane, sweat-wicking and firmly supportive, with a side slip pocket, a zipped back pocket big enough for a phone and an adjustable internal drawcord. Sizes run from XXXS to 4XL, with 60cm and 68cm inside legs.

The recent low ratings are partly about delivery, but not only. Several long-time buyers say newer pairs do not match old ones: seams that split within a month, fraying before the first wash, a tear on the first day and loose threads at the crotch. One reviewer simply disliked the logo. Check the seams when they arrive, while you can still send them back.

Yes, if

  • You want one pair of leggings for every kind of class
  • You need a pocket that holds a phone securely

No, if

  • You prefer light compression for slow yoga
  • You object to a visible logo

Super Soft Yoga Leggings

Super-high-waisted, buttery-soft studio leggings with snug compression and a product page honest enough to call them 90% squat-proof.

The Super Soft is the studio alternative to the Power: a smoother, softer fabric (69% polyamide, 31% elastane) cut super-high in the waist with snug compression, an internal drawcord and seams placed along the leg. There is one side slip pocket and a 68cm inside leg. The page says, with refreshing candour, that the fabric is 90% squat-proof and that you should size up if you want lighter compression. Reviews averaged 4.5 from just over 3,000.

Its recent complaints are specific. One long-standing buyer found the waistband felt cheaper than the leg and did not hold up as well as older pairs, and another found the fabric a magnet for dust and pet hair. Do a squat in front of a mirror before you take the tags off.

Yes, if

  • You want softness over firm hold
  • You like a very high waist

No, if

  • You share your home with a moulting pet
  • You need a zipped pocket

The Stamina is Sweaty Betty’s bestselling sports bra and one of the cheapest things on the site. It is a seam-free, unpadded racerback in a rib knit (72% Fulgar polyamide, 20% polyamide, 8% elastane), with zoned stitching to stop chafing and a contoured underband. The page is unusually frank on two points: support goes up to a C cup, and you should size up. Reviews averaged 4.2 from about 2,100.

Take the sizing advice seriously. The recent product complaints are almost all about it coming up small: one 34A buyer could not get an XL on, and another gave hers to a charity shop because it was too tight to wear. Most of the other recent one-star reviews are about orders that never arrived.

Yes, if

  • You are an A to C cup
  • You want a simple bra for gym and studio

No, if

  • You need high-impact support for running
  • You dislike sizing up

Runner’s High Zero Bra

Sweaty Betty’s high-support running bra, with bonded adjustable straps, a hook and eye back and a quick-release clasp for after the run.

For running, this is the bra to look at first. It is described as high support for high-impact work, in a lightweight 50/50 polyamide and elastane fabric, with an anti-bounce design, fully bonded adjustable twin straps that should not roll, and a hook and eye underband with a quick-release top clasp. Reviews averaged 4.2 from about 780.

The criticism is pointed, and it comes from larger busts. A 32DD reviewer found no defined cup support and a pinch at the back; a 34D called it medium support at best; another runner was cut by chafing. One owner of four older Zero Gravity bras said this replacement has fewer hooks and a narrower band, and another reported two broken clasps after one wash. Smaller cups fare better.

Yes, if

  • You run regularly and want an easy clasp
  • You are a smaller cup size

No, if

  • You are D cup or above and need firm hold

If the Stamina is too minimal, the Power Pulse adds shape. It is a newer medium-impact bra in Sweaty Betty’s Power fabric, with fixed moulded cups the page calls marshmallow-soft, adjustable padded straps that cross at the back, a hook and eye fastening with a keyhole detail, and seam detailing on the front. It costs £10 more than the Stamina, and reviews averaged 4.2 from about 170.

Two recent three-star reviews sum up the weak points. One owner said it is a real challenge to put on alone: she fastens it first and pulls it over her head. Another found the care labels dug in. Several one-star reviews are about orders lost or cancelled rather than the bra.

Yes, if

  • You want moulded cups rather than a crop-top shape
  • You like a crossover strap at the back

No, if

  • You have limited shoulder mobility
6Best for low impact

All Day Leggings

The All Day costs less than the Power and is made for gentler use: a lightweight, breathable, quick-drying legging in 80% recycled polyester and 20% elastane, with a supportive high waist and a 66cm inside leg. It suits walks, errands and stretching classes, and it is the easiest way into Sweaty Betty’s leggings at a lower price.

It is also noticeably less loved than the Power. Reviews averaged 4.0 from about 670, and recent low ratings say the newer version has changed: side seams added, a shorter leg, a waistband that digs in and a feel that does not match older pairs. A 5ft 9in buyer found them short. If you already own an older All Day, do not expect a like-for-like replacement.

Yes, if

  • You want a softer, lighter legging for everyday wear
  • You prefer recycled fabric

No, if

  • You are tall; the 66cm leg is short
  • You want a gym legging with pockets

Sweaty Betty against the rest

Sweaty Betty’s case rests on fit and candour. Its leggings come with review counts in the thousands, and its product pages tell you things rivals leave out: that the Super Soft is 90% squat-proof, that the Stamina bra stops at a C cup, which styles to size up. The returns window is generous too. The UK terms allow 45 days from receipt.

Rivals win elsewhere. Gymshark is far cheaper for gym basics, Lululemon has a deeper yoga range, and Marks & Spencer covers easy activewear at high-street prices. Sweaty Betty’s weak point is everything after you click Pay. Its Trustpilot score was 3.8 from about 17,600 reviews when we read it, and the October one-star reviews are a run of lost Evri parcels, cancelled orders and a chat assistant that cannot help. Even the help centre was serving the same contact page for every article we opened.

Before you buy: how to pick

1Match the legging to the workout

The three leggings here are built for different jobs. The Power is firm and sweat-wicking with a zipped phone pocket, for gym classes and running. The Super Soft is softer and higher in the waist, for yoga and Pilates, and only 90% squat-proof by the brand’s own account. The All Day is lighter and cheaper, for walks and stretching. Buying the Power for slow yoga, or the All Day for a HIIT class, is where disappointed reviews come from.

2Size up when the page says so

Several product pages carry a fit line, and it is worth reading before the colour. The Stamina bra says size up for the best fit, and its recent complaints are almost all about tightness. The Super Soft says size up for lighter compression. For high-impact bras, reviews from D cups and above are the most critical, so check the bra’s stated support level against your cup size before ordering.

3Check the seams on arrival

Recent low ratings for the Power leggings describe seams splitting within weeks, fraying before the first wash and loose threads at the crotch, from buyers whose older pairs lasted years. Inspect a new pair inside out before you wear it, keep the tags on until you are happy, and use the 45-day window. Washing follows the care label: warm and gentle, never in the tumble dryer.

What we'd skip

Nimbus Longline Waterproof Puffer

At £395 this is the dearest thing we looked at, sold as fully waterproof with taped seams and 700 fill power down. Its reviews averaged 3.6 from 80, and the low ones describe rain soaking through, water marks on a pale one, a jammed zip just out of warranty and filling that clumped after a machine wash. A specialist outdoor brand is the safer buy.

FAQs

Are Sweaty Betty Power leggings squat-proof?

The Power Workout Leggings use a dense polyamide and elastane fabric and are the brand’s firmest everyday legging; reviewers rarely complain about sheerness. The Super Soft Yoga Leggings are a different matter: the product page itself describes them as 90% squat-proof. If opacity matters most, choose the Power or a darker colour, and test any pair in front of a mirror before removing the tags.

How long do I have to return Sweaty Betty orders?

The UK terms give 45 days from receipt, which is longer than most high-street rivals. Refunds go back to the card you paid with and can take up to 30 working days from when the return arrives. The terms also allow Sweaty Betty to deduct a carrier collection fee and processing fee when its courier collects a no-fault return, so keep proof of postage.

Does Sweaty Betty run discounts?

Often. Newsletter sign-ups get 20% off a first full-price order, the free Insiders scheme brings early access to winter promotions plus birthday and anniversary codes, and the terms list several other promotions running this year. Codes generally exclude sale items and cannot be combined. Unless you need something this week, it rarely pays to buy at full price.

Other brands to consider

  • Gymshark sells gym leggings and bras for much less, with a younger look and fewer studio pieces.
  • Marks & Spencer covers easy activewear at high-street prices, with shops nearly everywhere for returns.
  • Lululemon is the obvious premium rival for yoga leggings, priced higher still.
