The 6 Best The Body Shop Beauty Buys for 2026

Six Body Shop products still worth buying after the 2024 rescue, from an £8 Hemp Hand Protector to a reformulated Shea Body Butter, with the returns small print that contradicts itself.

The Body Shop is the inexpensive end of high-street body care: hand creams, body butters, a camomile cleanser and the Vitamin E range, most of them under £20 and sold in sizes small enough to try. It suits shoppers who want reliable basics rather than luxury, and who will wait for a member discount.

This guide picks six products from the UK site and reads each against its lowest-rated on-site reviews. The headline advice: join the free Love Your Body Club before you buy, start with the smallest size, and keep your receipt, because the returns rules on the site do not agree with each other. The business behind the shops is also new, and its online service shows it.

Each pick in detail

1Best overall

Hemp Hand Protector

A dense hand cream with hemp seed oil and shea butter, and the best-reviewed product on the site by a distance, with nearly ten thousand ratings.

If you buy one thing from The Body Shop, make it this. It is a thick, green-tinted hand cream with shea butter, hemp seed oil from France, cocoa butter and sweet almond oil, sold in a 30ml size for £8 or 100ml for £18. The brand says it repairs ultra-dry hands from the first use with up to 96 hours of moisture. Oddly, the footnote attached to that figure on the page is about global sales in 2022, not a trial.

Its on-site rating is very high, and many of the one-star reviews are about orders that never arrived rather than the cream. The product complaints that remain: a couple of buyers say it is no longer vegan, which matters if you bought it for that reason, and one found it made their hands itch. It contains fragrance.

Suits you if

  • You work with your hands or wash them constantly
  • You want a pocket-sized hand cream for under £10

Look elsewhere if

  • You need a product certified vegan; check the current pack
  • You want an unscented hand cream

Camomile Sumptuous Makeup Cleansing Butter

A solid cleansing butter with camomile oil and shea, which the brand says melts make-up in under 30 seconds, from £7 for a 20ml tin.

This is the budget answer to the cleansing-balm habit. It is a solid butter of ethylhexyl palmitate, wax, shea butter, olive oil and camomile oil from Norfolk that you massage onto a dry face and rinse off. The Body Shop says it removes make-up in under 30 seconds, including waterproof eye make-up, and describes it as suitable for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers, dermatologically and ophthalmologically tested.

Most buyers rate it highly. The low ratings are worth reading, though: several people report stinging, rashes or puffy eyes, one describes eyelid eczema after using it twice, and another found it too heavy for a face cleanser. One buyer expected the 90ml pot and paid for the 20ml tin by mistake, so check the size before you add it to the bag.

Suits you if

  • You want a balm-style cleanser for under £20
  • You wear waterproof mascara

Look elsewhere if

  • You react to camomile or fragrance
3Best for everyday skincare

Vitamin E Moisture Day Cream

A lightweight day cream with hyaluronic acid, vitamin E and raspberry seed oil, in three sizes starting with a 20ml trial pot.

The Vitamin E range is The Body Shop’s best-known skincare, and this is its everyday cream: light, quick to absorb, and scented with the familiar Vitamin E fragrance. The page lists hyaluronic acid, vitamin E and raspberry seed oil, and says it is suitable for all skin types. It also says the cream is “clinically proven” to boost hydration by 38% for eight hours, but we could not find a footnote on the page explaining the trial.

The criticism in the low-rated reviews: loyal buyers miss the discontinued Intense version, one found it too drying, and others dislike the newer jar, which they describe as heavy, hard to open, and in one case barely half full under an air bubble. The page recommends a separate SPF on top.

Suits you if

  • You want a simple moisturiser under £20
  • You like a light texture under make-up

Look elsewhere if

  • You want fragrance-free skincare
  • You need a rich cream for very dry skin
4Best for winter skin

Shea Body Butter

The Body Shop’s signature body butter with Community Fair Trade shea from Ghana, relaunched this autumn in a new tub and a new texture.

Shea is the body butter people mean when they mention the brand. The current version lists Community Fair Trade shea butter from Ghana, cocoa butter and babassu oil, comes in 50ml, 200ml and 400ml tubs, and claims 72 hours of moisture. Look at the small print: the product description cites a survey of 83 people, while the details lower down quote a user trial of 116.

The bigger issue is that it has changed. The on-site reviews reset with the relaunch, and the October 2026 one- and two-star reviews are all from long-time buyers saying the new formula is thinner, softer or greasier than the thick butter they used for years. One reviewer prefers the new one. If you are replacing a tub you loved, buy the 50ml first.

Suits you if

  • You want a rich body cream that costs under £20
  • You are new to the brand and have no old tub to compare

Look elsewhere if

  • You loved the old, very thick formula
  • You want an unscented body cream

Ginger Anti-dandruff Shampoo

A ginger-scented anti-dandruff shampoo with piroctone olamine, sold from a £3.50 travel bottle up to 400ml.

The Ginger Shampoo is one of The Body Shop’s biggest sellers; the page claims one bottle is sold every 16 seconds, based on global sales in the first half of 2025. It is a sulphate-based shampoo (sodium laureth sulfate comes second) with piroctone olamine, a common anti-dandruff ingredient, plus ginger root oil and birch and willow bark extracts. The brand says it helps clear flakes and soothes dry, itchy scalps, and that it suits sensitive scalps.

Most of the one-star on-site reviews are about Royal Mail deliveries, not the shampoo. Those about the product say it did nothing for their flakes or itching, or that it smells of very little ginger. One reviewer with a scalp condition reported a flare-up. A persistent scalp problem is one for a pharmacist.

Suits you if

  • You want to try an anti-dandruff shampoo cheaply
  • You like a warm, spicy scent

Look elsewhere if

  • You prefer sulphate-free shampoo

Beauty advent calendars are an easy present, and this one is pitched well below most rivals. The Body Shop describes it as 24 “pocket-sized” bestsellers from head to toe; its own FAQ values the contents at £134.50, though the banner on the same page says worth over £120. Either way, “worth” means the full prices of the contents, not a saving. The Ultimate calendar has 25 products, including more full sizes, for more money.

Early reviews are few, and mostly from people who have peeked inside and liked it. The two low ratings are both about delivery: one calendar not yet received by Royal Mail, and an order where only the free gift arrived. Order early and check the parcel on arrival, not on 1 December.

Suits you if

  • You want a beauty advent calendar under £70
  • The recipient likes trying lots of small things

Look elsewhere if

  • You want mainly full-size products

Choosing the right one

1Join the club before you pay

The Love Your Body Club is free. When we checked, members were offered 20% off everything for a limited time, earned 5 points per £1 (500 points makes a £5 reward), and got a £5 birthday voucher. The discount excludes sale and archive items, gift cards, gift sets and collections, so single products are usually the better buy. New email subscribers are also offered 15% off a first order.

2Start small, because formulas change

Nearly everything in this guide comes in a trial size: a 30ml Hemp Hand Protector, a 20ml cleansing butter, a 20ml Vitamin E cream, a 50ml Shea Body Butter and a 60ml Ginger Shampoo. That matters more than usual here. The Shea Body Butter was relaunched this autumn with a softer texture, Vitamin E buyers are mourning a discontinued version, and Hemp reviewers dispute whether it is still vegan.

3Read claims as the brand’s, and check the footnote

The Body Shop’s claims are bold and the evidence on the page is patchy. The Hemp Hand Protector’s 96-hour figure carries a footnote about 2022 sales figures; the Vitamin E cream’s “clinically proven” 38% has no visible trial note; the Shea Body Butter cites two different surveys. None of this makes the products bad. It means the reviews tell you more than the headline numbers.

The Body Shop against the rest

The Body Shop’s case is price and familiarity. Most of the products here cost less than £20, nearly all come in a trial size, and members of the free Love Your Body Club were offered 20% off everything when we checked. The Hemp Hand Protector and the Ginger Shampoo have thousands of on-site reviews, and the averages are high.

The business behind them is new. Companies House shows the original 1976 company, now TBSI Realisations, in liquidation, and the website run by a company incorporated in July 2024. Its Trustpilot rating was “Poor” when we read it, with complaints about missing gifts and unanswered emails, though the company now replies. Formulas are changing too, as the Shea reviews show. Boots own-brand covers similar ground at similar prices; Lush costs more but runs livelier shops.

Your questions, answered

Can I return a Body Shop product I have opened?

The site gives two answers. The refund policy page says you can return items within 45 days of purchase for a full refund “even if you’ve opened it”, with your receipt. The terms of sale say opened or unsealed products cannot be returned for hygiene reasons unless they arrived damaged or faulty. Until that is cleared up, email Customer Care before opening anything you might send back, and keep the receipt.

Who owns The Body Shop now?

The original UK company, incorporated in 1976, went into administration in 2024 and is now in liquidation under the name TBSI Realisations Limited. The website is run by The Body Shop International Limited, a company incorporated on 26 July 2024, according to Companies House. For shoppers, that mostly explains why service and some formulas have changed.

Is The Body Shop still vegan?

We could not confirm a range-wide answer from the pages we read. The site has a vegan skincare filter, but some Hemp Hand Protector reviewers say that product is no longer vegan, and its product page did not describe it as vegan when we read it. If it matters to you, check the label on the pack in your hand, or ask Customer Care about the specific product before buying.

Are the Body Shop gift sets worth it?

Usually less than they look. The Love Your Body Club discount excludes gift sets and collections, so building your own set from single products with a member discount often costs less. The advent calendars are the exception for people who want lots of small things, but read the stated value as full-price contents, not a saving.

Other brands to consider

  • Boots own-brand body care covers the same ground at similar prices, with shops on most high streets to return things to.
  • Lush costs more and smells louder, but its shops are livelier and its solid products skip the packaging.
  • Neal’s Yard Remedies offers the ethical high-street idea in a dearer, organic and less sugary form.
