The 5 Best Rituals Bath and Home Buys for 2026

Rituals is the Dutch brand of heavy glass bottles, cherry-blossom hand wash and gift boxes that look good under a tree. It suits people buying presents, and anyone who wants a bathroom that smells as if someone made an effort, at prices between the supermarket and the department-store perfumers.

This guide picks five products from the UK site, four of them from The Ritual of Sakura, its best-known scent. Rituals shows no customer reviews on its product pages, so the weaknesses here come from its Trustpilot page, which is poor. The headline advice: buy in a shop if you can, keep products sealed until you are sure, and treat the wellbeing language as decoration.

The Ritual of Sakura Hand Wash

A soap-free hand wash in a ribbed glass bottle that Rituals says is endlessly refillable, scented with cherry blossom and rice milk.

The best thing Rituals sells is also the most ordinary. This is a 300ml hand wash, soap-free with glycerine and betaine, in a heavy ribbed glass bottle that looks better by a basin than it has any right to. Rituals lists the scent as cherry blossom, pear, orris and soft musks, and the page pairs it with a 600ml refill, so the bottle is a one-off purchase.

The criticisms are about value and refills rather than the soap. At £53.33 a litre it is expensive hand wash. In 2024 Trustpilot reviewers were scathing about a concentrated refill that had to be mixed with water and came out thin and watery; the page now offers a ready-made refill instead. A glass bottle by a busy sink can also break, which matters in a house with children.

Suits you if

  • You want a present that is hard to get wrong
  • You will buy the refill rather than a new bottle

Look elsewhere if

  • You want a cheap hand wash for a family bathroom

The Ritual of Sakura Foaming Shower Gel

The gel-to-foam shower product Rituals made its name with, in the Sakura scent and a 200ml can.

Rituals’ foaming shower gels come out of the can as a gel and turn into a thick foam on the skin, and they are the cheapest way to find out whether you like the house scents. The Sakura version smells of cherry blossom and rice milk, and Rituals says the formula is 91% ingredients of natural origin. At £10.90 for 200ml it is also a good stocking filler.

The Trustpilot complaints about the foams are specific. Several describe a can that lost pressure, leaving product stuck inside or spurting liquid that would not foam; one reviewer says customer service called it a known issue with older cans. A long-time buyer of the 25th-anniversary set thought the foams now feel thinner and smell more chemical than they used to. Travel sizes drew similar complaints.

Suits you if

  • You want to try a Rituals scent for about a tenner
  • You like a rich foam rather than a runny gel

Look elsewhere if

  • You buy in bulk and keep cans for months
3Best for body care

The Ritual of Sakura Body Cream

A whipped body cream in a glass jar, which Rituals says keeps skin hydrated for 48 hours and leaves a cherry-blossom scent.

This is a whipped body cream in a 220ml glass jar, with what Rituals calls its Moisture Lock Complex and a blend of oils. The brand says it melts in quickly with a non-greasy finish and keeps skin hydrated for 48 hours; those are its claims. The scent is the same cherry blossom and rice milk as the hand wash.

Read the small print on the page, because it contradicts itself. The bullet points still say “Refillable glass jar”, while a notice above them says the new jar does not support the previous refill system. Trustpilot reviewers have also complained of refills that would not let the lid close, and one long-standing buyer misses the older, lighter balancing body cream that the whipped formula replaced, finding the new one too thick.

Suits you if

  • You want your body cream to match your hand wash
  • You like a thick, whipped texture

Look elsewhere if

  • You were counting on the old refill pods
  • You prefer a light lotion
4Best for small rooms

The Ritual of Sakura Mini Fragrance Sticks

A 70ml bottle of reed-diffuser liquid with sticks, sized for small rooms and rated by Rituals to last four to five weeks.

Fragrance sticks are the other Rituals habit, and the mini size is the sensible way in. It is a 70ml bottle with sticks, which Rituals says will scent a small room for up to five weeks, in the Sakura blend of green and nashi pear, cherry blossom and orris. The page is honest about the trade-off: turning the sticks strengthens the scent but shortens its life.

That trade-off is the main complaint on Trustpilot. Reviewers say sticks run out within a few weeks, that a refill did not fill the room like the first bottle, and that one refill arrived without the fresh sticks it should include. At £270 a litre, five weeks of scent is not cheap. The empty bottle is heavy enough to reuse as a bud vase, which Rituals itself suggests.

Suits you if

  • You want to scent a downstairs loo or small bathroom
  • You want to try a scent before a bigger bottle

Look elsewhere if

  • You want a strong scent in a large room

Rituals is very good at boxes, and this is its showpiece. The 2026 Classic Advent Calendar unfolds into a townhouse for the mantelpiece, with 24 doors of bath, body and home products, two of them full size and the rest travel minis. Rituals puts the product value at £187.10, which means what the contents would cost bought separately, not what you save.

Trustpilot reviewers who bought earlier calendars have two complaints. The first is contents: mostly sample sizes, more hand creams than anything else, and in one case an expired lip balm. The second is delivery: several describe calendars lost in transit and a struggle to get a refund. If you can, buy it in a shop, and open the box when it arrives rather than on 1 December.

Suits you if

  • The recipient already loves Rituals scents
  • You value the box and the display as much as the contents

Look elsewhere if

  • You want mostly full-size products for £99

Why buy from Rituals?

Rituals’ case is presentation and refills. Its hand wash, body cream and fragrance sticks come in heavy glass that looks expensive, refills exist for several of them, returns are free, and you can take an online order back to a Rituals shop. It is a certified B Corp and pledges a tenth of its annual profit to causes including War Child and Tiny Miracles.

Rivals win on service and evidence. Rituals’ Trustpilot rating was “Poor” when we read it, and the one- and two-star reviews describe chat bots on WhatsApp, lost InPost parcels and damaged gift boxes customers were told to take to a shop. There are no customer reviews on its own product pages to steer you. Molton Brown is dearer but more settled; The White Company does quieter home scents; Lush suits people who want loose, handmade products instead.

Working out which one is yours

1Pick a scent family, then stay in it

Rituals sells each scent across hand wash, shower foam, body cream, fragrance sticks, candles and even laundry products, and the cheapest test is a shower foam at £10.90. Sakura is the soft, sweet floral, and the other collections smell quite different. Because there are no on-site reviews, smell the range in a shop if you can. Cosmetics can only be returned sealed, so an opened product in a scent you dislike is yours.

2Check the refill fits before you buy it

Refills are the sensible way to keep a Rituals habit going, but the details matter. The new body cream jar does not take the previous refill system, according to its own product page, and Trustpilot reviewers have bought refills that left lids unable to close. Hand wash refills now come as a 600ml bottle. Read the refill page for compatibility, and keep the original bottle or jar.

3Use the gift threshold, not the box price

When we checked, delivery was free over £35, and My Rituals members got a gift with orders over £45, choosing one per order in the basket. Members also get a thank-you gift with their second order and a birthday gift with a purchase. If you send back a whole order, the gift must go back too, or Rituals charges you for it. Gift wrapping does not count towards the free-delivery minimum.

FAQs

Can I return Rituals products I have opened?

Not cosmetics. Rituals accepts free returns within 30 days of receiving an order, but cosmetics, earrings and underwear must be sealed and unopened, and it reserves the right to refuse or charge for anything used or damaged. Online orders can go back by post or to a Rituals shop, though not an outlet. Products bought in a shop go back to a shop with the receipt.

Why are there no reviews on the Rituals website?

We found none on the UK, US, Dutch or German product pages we read in October 2026. That leaves Trustpilot as the main public record, and its reviews are dominated by service complaints rather than product ones. For individual products, a shop visit and a sniff is the best evidence you will get, which suits a brand whose stock in trade is scent.

Is the Rituals advent calendar worth £99?

It depends on what you want from it. Rituals values the contents at £187.10, but that is a full-price figure, and 22 of the 24 items are travel minis. Past buyers on Trustpilot who felt short-changed complained of many hand creams and sample-size products. As a display piece and a daily treat for someone who loves the brand, it works; as a stock-up, buying two or three full-size favourites is better value.

Do Rituals products help you relax or sleep?

Rituals uses wellbeing language across its ranges, but scent is a matter of taste, not treatment, and nothing in this guide is sold as a medical product. If you have trouble sleeping, a GP or pharmacist is the right person to ask. Buy Rituals because you like the smell and the bottle.

Other brands to consider

  • Molton Brown is the British choice for hand wash by the basin, dearer and more perfumed, with a longer list of scents.
  • The White Company covers home fragrance with quieter scents and a stronger line in bedding and towels to go with them.
  • Lush suits people who prefer loose, handmade bath products to boxed and bottled ones.
