Neal’s Yard Remedies started in Covent Garden in 1981 and now makes its organic skincare, bath and aromatherapy products at its own eco-factory in North Dorset. It suits shoppers who want certified organic ingredients, plain blue bottles and a shop where staff will talk you through a product.

This guide picks six products from the UK site, each read on its product page with the lowest-rated on-site reviews first, plus one we would skip. Where a product claims a result, that is Neal’s Yard’s claim, and we say what the footnote behind it says. Buy small sizes first: the returns policy accepts unopened products only, within 14 days.

The picks, one by one

1Best overall

Wild Rosehip Beauty Balm

The brand’s best-known product since 2004, a rich organic balm sold as a moisturiser, cleanser and cuticle softener in one pot.

Formerly the Wild Rose Beauty Balm, this is a thick blend of organic rosehip seed oil and other plant oils that Neal’s Yard sells for face, hands and body, as an intensive moisturiser or a cleanser with a cloth; the radiance claims are the brand’s. It costs £17 for a 15g tin or jar, £41 for 50g and £44 with a muslin cloth. A vegan version is listed separately at the same prices.

It had more than 2,000 reviews and a 4.76 average. The one-star reviews come largely from long-standing fans who say a recent formula feels oilier, lumpier or grainy and smells weaker. One found the new packaging makes the original and vegan versions hard to tell apart, and one buyer who used it to remove eye make-up reported a breakout.

Suits you if

  • You have dry skin and like a rich balm
  • You want one product for face, hands and cuticles

Look elsewhere if

  • You loved the old formula and dislike change
  • Your skin breaks out under heavy oils

The hand cream is the cheapest way into the Geranium & Orange range. The page describes a nourishing cream with rose, geranium and sweet orange organic essential oils, certified organic, Vegetarian Approved and cruelty-free, at £14 for 50ml. It is also in this year’s advent calendar.

It averaged 4.82 from 147 reviews. The criticism is about scent and finish, not quality: two reviewers found the smell too strong or unpleasant, and two three-star reviewers said it felt watery once rubbed in and left an oily residue. One thought it worked no better than creams at a third of the price. Most of the low reviews are a few years old.

Suits you if

  • You like citrus and floral scents
  • You want a small, giftable organic product

Look elsewhere if

  • You want an unscented hand cream
3Best for bath time

Aromatic Foaming Bath

Lavender, Spanish marjoram and geranium in a bath foam with conditioning plant oils, from 100ml to a 950ml bottle.

The Aromatic Foaming Bath is a quiet bestseller, with 885 reviews when we checked and a 4.82 average. The page lists lavender, Spanish marjoram and geranium essential oils with skin-conditioning botanical oils; the relaxation and skin benefits are the brand’s description. It is certified organic and Vegan Approved. Prices run from £13 for 100ml and £19 for 200ml to £27 for 300ml and £63 for 950ml.

The lowest-rated reviews are few but pointed. One reviewer said it does not foam well, another simply called it very expensive, and a long-time buyer objected that it now comes in a plastic bottle rather than glass. Several one-star ratings are attached to glowing text, so read them before trusting the stars.

Suits you if

  • You prefer an aromatic bath to big bubbles
  • You will use the larger bottle

Look elsewhere if

  • You want plenty of foam
  • You want glass packaging
4Best for bedtime

Goodnight Pillow Mist 45ml

The Goodnight Pillow Mist blends organic lavender, vetiver and mandarin essential oils. Neal’s Yard describes it as proven to improve sleep quality through the week; the asterisk leads to a consumer trial with 100 participants, and the page gives no more detail. Treat it as a pleasant scent for a bedtime routine, not as a sleep aid. It costs £22 for 45ml and is Vegan Approved.

It averaged 4.68 from 589 reviews. The one-star complaints are about the smell: one buyer found it faded within seconds, another found it overpoweringly musky, a third said it made them feel nauseous, and one reported streaming eyes. A broken spray head spoiled another order.

Suits you if

  • You like lavender and earthy vetiver
  • You want a small bedtime ritual or gift

Look elsewhere if

  • You are sensitive to strong scents
  • You expect a measurable effect on sleep

This is one of the dearest creams in the range, with a plant-based 3-peptide complex and a high concentration of linseed oil. The page says it is clinically proven to redefine cheeks and jawline; the footnote gives a consumer trial with 122 participants over four weeks. Those are the brand’s results, not ours. The page also says the formula is new and improved, with more linseed extract.

It averaged 4.63 from 526 reviews. The one-star reviews are mostly about that change and about consistency: long-term buyers call the new version thinner and airier, and others describe pots that varied from creamy to solid or runny. A couple found it heavy, and two reported dryness, redness or irritation.

Suits you if

  • You already like the Frankincense scent
  • You want a certified organic, vegan rich cream

Look elsewhere if

  • You were loyal to the previous formula
  • You have reactive skin

The calendar lists its contents on the page: the Frankincense Intense Triple Action Melting Cleanser 100ml, a 15g vegan Beauty Balm, the Goodnight Pillow Mist, both hand creams in this guide, a Damask Rose Facial Oil 28ml, two Remedies to Roll and three new exclusives, including a ceramic aroma diffuser. The page says it is worth over £500 and it costs £195.

The review count includes earlier years’ calendars sold at the same address. Their low reviews complain of too many small sizes, uneven wrapping between two calendars, and damage in transit, a complaint repeated by a 2026 buyer. Another 2026 buyer noted it contains honey; the page says every product suits vegetarians but not all suit vegans.

Suits you if

  • The recipient likes the Frankincense and bath ranges
  • You want a box worth keeping

Look elsewhere if

  • You are buying for a vegan

Before you buy: how to pick

1Read the asterisk

Neal’s Yard footnotes its biggest claims, which is to its credit. The Lift Cream is clinically proven to redefine cheeks and jawline per a consumer trial of 122 people over four weeks; the Pillow Mist improves sleep quality per a consumer trial of 100. Consumer trials usually record how people feel about a product. Treat these as the brand’s results and buy for texture and scent, which you can judge yourself.

2Start with the small size

Because opened products cannot be returned, size is your safety net. The Beauty Balm comes in a £17 tin, several Frankincense creams and toners have 15ml or 25ml sizes, and a shop visit lets you smell before you buy. Several of the harshest reviews here are about scent, which is personal, so smell before you commit to a large bottle or a £87 jar.

3Check vegan and vegetarian marks

Not everything is vegan. The original Beauty Balm is Vegetarian Approved and a vegan version is sold separately at the same price, which the new labels make easy to confuse. The Lift Cream, Foaming Bath and Pillow Mist are Vegan Approved. The advent calendar page says every product suits vegetarians but not all suit vegans, and a buyer this year flagged honey.

4Plan around delivery

Standard delivery is £4.50 under £50 and free above it, by Evri, in three to five working days after dispatch. Next day is £6.99 by DPD for orders by 2pm on a weekday. Orders and delivery addresses cannot be changed once placed, so check the basket. For a gift with a deadline, next day or a shop visit is the safer choice.

Neal's Yard Remedies against the rest

Neal’s Yard makes what it sells. Its products are made at an eco-factory in North Dorset, where, the company says, staff check every bottle, jar and tube by hand, and most of the products we read are certified organic and carry Vegan or Vegetarian Approved marks. It has been owned by the Kindersley family since 2006. The shops, and a separate advice line for product questions, are a real asset, and its Trustpilot score was 4.7, rated Excellent, when we checked.

The cautions are practical. Returns are unopened only, within 14 days. Standard delivery is by Evri, which draws most of the recent one-star reviews, and orders cannot be changed once placed. Some long-standing products have been reformulated or discontinued, and loyal customers notice.

What we'd leave on the shelf

Remedies to Roll - Relaxation 9ml

A lavender, bergamot and frankincense roll-on at £17 for 9ml, sold to help you relax. It averages well, but the low reviews agree on one thing: the scent is faint and fades in seconds, and one buyer’s roller smelt of old oil. For the same scent at better value, the Aromatic Foaming Bath or a shop tester is the better start.

FAQs

Can I return opened Neal’s Yard Remedies products?

Generally no. The policy accepts unopened items within 14 days of receipt, and you pay return postage unless the order was wrong or damaged. If you report an allergic reaction, the help page says you may be asked for photographic evidence or a doctor’s certificate. That makes the small sizes and the shops the sensible way to try anything new.

Are Neal’s Yard’s clinically proven claims based on clinical trials?

Not in the sense most people assume. The footnotes on the products we read point to consumer trials: 122 participants over four weeks for the Frankincense Intense Lift Cream, and 100 participants for the Goodnight Pillow Mist. The pages do not publish the method or results in detail. We report them as the brand’s claims and did not test the products ourselves.

Who owns Neal’s Yard Remedies, and where are its products made?

The company was founded in Covent Garden in 1981 and has been owned by the Kindersley family since 2006. Its products are made at its eco-factory in North Dorset, where it says the team fills, labels and packs them and checks each one by hand. It also runs shops and a home-consultant business, NYR Organic.
