Lakeland started out selling freezer bags from a Windermere garage in the 1960s and is now the shop for a tin in exactly the size the recipe asks for, plus a heated airer with a devoted following. It suits bakers, people with small kitchens and anyone who likes to buy once and be able to take it back.

This guide picks six things from the current range, five of them Lakeland’s own, plus two we would leave on the shelf. The headline advice: the three-year guarantee covers plain dissatisfaction as well as faults, so keep every receipt; and for anything bulky, use click and collect, because nearly every recent one-star review is about a delivery rather than a product.

Dry:Soon 3-Tier Heated Clothes Airer

The original Dry:Soon: three tiers of heated aluminium bars that fold to 8cm, and the product with more reviews than anything else Lakeland sells.

Lakeland introduced its first heated airer in 2008, and this is still the one to start with. It has three tiers of heated aluminium bars with 21 metres of drying space for up to 15kg of washing, stands 137cm tall, weighs 5.5kg and folds to 8cm deep. Lakeland puts the running cost at 8p an hour, based on an electricity price of 26.11p a unit.

More than a thousand on-site reviews give it a solid average, but read the one-stars before you buy. The recurring complaint is that the bars only dry the fabric touching them, so heavy loads hung over a single bar can stay damp for a day or more, and the washing can turn musty in a cold room. Most owners say the cover helps, and that costs extra. There is no timer on this model.

Good for you if

  • You have no tumble dryer or want to use it less
  • You will lay items flat and buy the cover

Not for you if

  • You need a full load dry overnight in a cold room
  • You want a timer; that comes on the Deluxe

Bakeware is the reason Lakeland exists, and the 8-inch sandwich tin is the one most British recipes start with. This version is 1mm carbon steel with two layers of Quantum 2 non-stick, a fill line inside, silicone-gripped handles and a loose base. The edges are deliberately left unrolled so water cannot sit under the rim, which is why Lakeland calls it completely dishwasher safe. It is oven safe to 240C. Buy two.

The low reviews make a precise point. Several bakers say the base measures nearer 19cm than 20cm, so Lakeland’s own 20cm parchment circles do not fit, and one professional baker found the sides not quite vertical. Others found the 4cm sides too shallow for deep sponges, or had batter seep round the loose base.

Good for you if

  • You bake sandwich cakes and want tins that stack
  • You want bakeware that can go in the dishwasher

Not for you if

  • You rely on pre-cut 20cm liners
  • You bake tall, deep sponges

The Only Pan Pro is Lakeland’s take on the hybrid pans sold by pricier brands: tri-ply steel and aluminium, with a raised, textured steel surface over a PFAS-free ceramic non-stick layer, which Lakeland says can take metal utensils. It is 26cm across and holds 3 litres, works on every hob including induction, goes in the oven to 200C, and comes with a domed lid, a steel steamer basket and a silicone turner. The product page shows a 25-year guarantee.

Early reviews are mixed. The lid knob and helper handle are the same metal as the pan and get too hot to touch, which several buyers mention; at about 2kg it is heavy; two found food sticking and hard to clean; and two could not see how the steamer works with so little room for water underneath.

Good for you if

  • You want one deep pan for frying, braising and boiling
  • You have a small kitchen with little storage

Not for you if

  • You want a light pan for quick tossing
  • You do not want to reach for an oven glove for the lid

Lakeland EasyUse 2lb Bread Maker

Most bread makers bury you in crust and loaf-size settings. The EasyUse has one button to choose among 12 programmes and another to start, covering white, wholemeal, French-style, gluten-free, dough and cake. It makes loaves up to 2lb, keeps them warm for an hour, and at 29 x 24 x 29cm it is slim enough to live in a cupboard. The pan, paddle, hook and measures come in the box.

The trade-offs are in the reviews. One buyer returned it after the handle came off the bread pan twice. Another wanted a delay timer to bake on cheap overnight electricity and found there is none; the current product page does not list one, so do not expect it. A third received theirs without an instruction booklet.

Good for you if

  • You want simple daily loaves without learning a manual
  • Your worktop is short of space

Not for you if

  • You want to wake up to fresh bread with a delay timer
  • You are replacing a high-end Panasonic

This is the best-reviewed thing in this guide, and it is under a tenner. It is a 10 x 8 inch tin in the same carbon steel and double Quantum 2 non-stick as the sandwich tin, with straight sides, unrolled edges, silicone-gripped handles and portion guides at each end for cutting 20 identical brownies. Oven safe to 240C and dishwasher safe.

There were no reviews below four stars when we read them, so the weaknesses are small and specific. One long-standing customer preferred the old 7 x 11 inch shape and found ready-rolled pastry sheets fit it less well. Another had the non-stick come away on a first tin; Lakeland replaced it under the guarantee and the replacement has been fine.

Good for you if

  • You bake brownies or flapjacks for a crowd
  • You want neat, even portions without a ruler

Not for you if

  • Your recipes are written for a 7 x 11 inch tin

Dry:Soon Deluxe 3-Tier Heated Clothes Airer

The Deluxe answers two complaints about the original. It adds a built-in timer you can set from one to 12 hours, so it switches itself off, and it reworks the front so a bar is not in the way when you hang things. Capacity is the same 15kg on 36 heated bars, it folds to 8cm, and Lakeland gives the same 8p an hour running cost.

Its review profile is a little weaker than the standard model’s. The one-stars repeat the slow-drying theme, and add a flex too short to reach a worktop socket, a cover (£44.99, sold separately) that hides the switch and timer once zipped on, and a few units that stopped heating and beeped after several years. One owner wrote that the standard model they had used for 13 years dried faster.

Good for you if

  • You forget to switch appliances off
  • You load the airer every day

Not for you if

  • Your nearest socket is above a worktop
  • You would rather spend the extra £40 on the cover

Working out which one is yours

1Standard or Deluxe Dry:Soon

Both hold 15kg on three tiers and fold to 8cm. The Deluxe adds a timer and an easier front, for £40 more. The standard model has twice as many on-site reviews and a slightly better average. Whichever you choose, budget for the cover, since owners agree it makes the biggest difference to drying time, and check where your socket is: several reviewers found the flex too short to reach one above a worktop.

2Measure the tin, not the label

Lakeland sells near-identical tins under the Lakeland, Lakeland Blue and Simply Lakeland names, plus PushPan, often at different prices for the same size. Read the product details rather than the photo. Reviews of the 20cm sandwich tin report a base nearer 19cm, which matters if you use pre-cut liners. The plain Lakeland tins have unrolled edges and are dishwasher safe; check the page before assuming the same of the others.

3Treat non-stick as a consumable

The lowest reviews in Lakeland’s cookware cluster around coatings: the original Only Pan losing its release within months, and an air fryer tray shedding flakes. The guarantee helps, because Lakeland will refund or replace within three years if you are not satisfied, but only with a receipt or the order email. Keep it, and if a coating fails early, take the pan back rather than living with it.

4Collect bulky things in store

Click and collect is free to most branches and avoids the courier altogether. Orders are held for four days and you need photo ID. The catch is that the whole order must be eligible: one home-delivery-only item sends everything by courier. For a heated airer, which the help pages say can take up to 10 working days just to confirm despatch, collecting is the safer route.

Why Lakeland, and why not

Lakeland’s case is the guarantee and the bakeware. Every product carries a three-year promise that covers simple dissatisfaction as well as faults, which no supermarket or department store matches, and the tin range runs to sizes that most shops ignore. It also sells Panasonic, Ninja and Morphy Richards beside its own machines, so you can compare in one place. Trustpilot rated it 4.8 from over 230,000 reviews when we read it.

The weak spot is delivery. Standard parcels go by Evri, and the recent one- and two-star reviews are mostly about airers arriving bent in unpadded boxes, return collections that never came, and orders split without warning. ProCook’s steel pans carry longer guarantees, John Lewis has the stronger delivery operation, and Dunelm is cheaper for basic storage. Lakeland wins when you can walk into a shop.

What we'd skip

Lakeland 8-in-1 Only Pan

The original, ceramic-coated Only Pan is pretty and cheaper than the Pro at £59.99, but its reviews tell a consistent story: lovely for a few months, then food sticks. Several owners who hand-washed it and used only silicone tools say the coating gave up within a year. The guarantee softens that; it does not make it a good buy.

Lakeland 5.7L Air Fryer

At £59.99 it undercuts the big names, and buyers like how it cooks. But most of the recent low reviews describe the same fault: the non-stick coating on the removable crisper tray chipping or flaking within weeks, even with silicone utensils. One owner was told only a whole replacement unit was available, not a new tray.

FAQs

Does Lakeland really refund things after three years?

Its guarantee page says so: if you are not 100% satisfied, or the item is faulty, you can return it for a refund or replacement for up to three years with a receipt or order confirmation email. The exclusions are heated textiles, blankets and bedding, which can only come back unopened unless faulty. In practice the shop is the easiest place to use it; owners in the reviews describe store refunds with little fuss.

Is a Dry:Soon cheaper to run than a tumble dryer?

Per hour, almost certainly: Lakeland quotes 8p an hour at 26.11p per unit. Per load is less clear-cut, because the airer runs for many hours and the reviews disagree sharply on how many. Some owners dry a load overnight; others report 12 to 24 hours with damp patches. A cover, laying items flat and a warm room shorten it. Running costs depend on your tariff, so treat any comparison as a rough guide.

Why has my Lakeland order arrived in two parts?

Lakeland splits orders by size. Its help pages say larger items such as heated airers travel separately, usually after any accessories, and asks you to allow up to 10 working days for an airer’s despatch confirmation. Orders cannot be changed once placed, and the FAQ warns that a second order may carry postage if it is under £50, a different figure from the £60 free-delivery threshold elsewhere.

Other brands to consider

  • ProCook makes heavier steel and cast-iron pans with longer guarantees, but has no baking range to match.
  • John Lewis sells many of the same branded appliances with a more dependable delivery service and ordinary return windows.
  • Dunelm is cheaper for storage and kitchen basics, with a narrower, less specialised baking section.
