JD Sports is where the UK buys big-name trainers and tracksuits: Nike, adidas, ASICS and The North Face, plus labels you will mostly only find at JD, such as Technicals and McKenzie. It suits anyone who wants the current sportswear names, including colourways marked JD Exclusive, without shopping brand by brand.
This guide picks six things from the current UK range. The headline advice: check who ships your order. Some items come straight from adidas, Reebok, Under Armour, Timberland, Vans or The North Face, and those cannot go back to a JD shop. Watch for the 20% codes applied at checkout on selected lines, and inspect trainer boxes the day they arrive.
The Air Force 1 has its own collection page in JD’s menu, and this black version is marked Exclusive to JD. The product page lists a leather and textile upper, a padded collar, a foam midsole with a Nike Air unit and a rubber outsole for grip. It is a heavy, flat court shoe rather than a running shoe, which is why it goes with almost anything.
Read the reviews carefully. The 4.9-star average on the page is built partly from reviews syndicated from nike.com and JD’s Canadian site, some about a different AF1 version, so it says little about this pair. The real risk is delivery: recent one-star Trustpilot reviews describe trainers arriving in battered boxes, one pair looking worn. Check yours on arrival.
Yes, if
You want one pair of trainers that suits everything
You like a colourway few others will have
No, if
You want a light shoe for long walks
2Best value
Hoodrich Chromatic Overhead Hoodie
A relaxed black fleece hoodie in a cotton-rich mix that fell into JD’s two for £60 offer when we checked, which makes it the cheapest way into a branded hoodie.
On its own a £50 hoodie is not cheap. This one was in JD’s two for £60 promotion when we checked, which brings the cost of each down sharply if you buy a second item in the deal. It is a relaxed fleece hoodie in 80% cotton and 20% polyester, with a fixed hood that closes with a snap button, ribbed trims, a kangaroo pocket and a Hoodrich logo on the chest. It is machine washable.
There is nothing to go on for fit or wear: the product had no reviews when we looked, and JD showed only Hoodrich’s average rating for hoodies instead. The relaxed cut is roomy by design, so check the model note (6ft 1in, 36-inch chest, size M) before sizing up.
Yes, if
You can use a two-for deal
You want a roomy everyday hoodie
No, if
You want reviews before you buy
3Best for everyday wear
Nike Club Fleece Hoodie
Nike’s brushed-back Club fleece hoodie in black, with a drawstring hood and a small embroidered logo: the plainest Nike hoodie JD sells.
Club Fleece is Nike’s basic sweatshirt fabric, brushed on the inside, and this is the simple version: relaxed fit, adjustable drawstring hood, ribbed trims, kangaroo pocket and a small embroidered Futura logo on the chest. It is 80% cotton and 20% polyester and machine washable. When we looked it was among the lines carrying 20% off at checkout.
The weakness is evidence rather than anything known to be wrong. The page showed a 4.4-star average from just five reviews, too few to say much about pilling or shrinkage, and JD’s review counts can include reviews collected on other sites. The relaxed cut is roomy; the model is 6ft with a 35-inch chest and wears a medium.
Yes, if
You want a quiet logo rather than a big print
You can catch the checkout discount
No, if
You want a slim, fitted hoodie
4Best upgrade
The North Face Kanaga Jacket
A JD-exclusive padded, hooded jacket from The North Face with a smooth woven shell and zip pockets, and the dearest pick in this guide.
The Kanaga is The North Face’s padded jacket made for JD. It has a smooth woven shell, padded insulation, a hood, elasticated trims and zip pockets, with the Half Dome logo on the chest and back. It is 100% polyester and, unusually for a coat at this price, machine washable. It carried 20% off at checkout when we looked.
For £200 the product page is thin. It gives no fill weight, no warmth rating and no water resistance claim, so it is hard to compare with The North Face’s own named insulated jackets. There were no reviews. And because JD lists The North Face among brands that can ship direct, check your despatch note: if it came from the brand, the return goes back to them, not to a JD shop.
Yes, if
You want The North Face styling not sold elsewhere
You prefer a coat you can wash at home
No, if
You need stated warmth or waterproof ratings
5Best for dark commutes
Technicals Cairne Jacket
A JD-exclusive padded jacket with a detachable bungee-cord hood, adjustable cuffs and reflective details, at roughly half the Kanaga’s price.
Technicals is one of the outdoor-style labels you will mostly see at JD, and the Cairne is a practical buy. It has a detachable hood with a bungee cord, Velcro cuffs, chest and side zip pockets, and reflective elements including the branding, which helps on winter evenings. The shell and lining are polyamide with polyester wadding, and it is machine washable.
The description calls the fabric warm and durable but gives no fill weight or waterproof rating, so treat it as showerproof at best until proven otherwise. It had no reviews when we checked. At £110 it costs well over the padded coats in our River Island and New Look guides, and part of that is the label.
Yes, if
You walk or cycle after dark
You want a hood you can remove
No, if
You need a tested waterproof
6Also great
ASICS GEL-NYC
A JD-exclusive black colourway of ASICS’ retro runner, with a mesh and suede upper and GEL inserts in a foam midsole.
The GEL-NYC is ASICS’ running-shoe styling for everyday wear, and the black version here is a JD exclusive. The upper is breathable mesh with suede overlays, the midsole is foam with GEL inserts for cushioning, and the outsole is rubber. It is a softer, lighter option than the Air Force 1 for long days on your feet.
It is also £25 dearer, and the mesh that keeps it cool lets in rain, while the suede overlays mark easily. The page had no reviews for this colourway when we looked, so sizing advice has to come from the size guide or a try-on in a JD shop, which is worth doing for a £145 trainer.

Where JD Sports wins, and where rivals do
JD’s case is range and exclusives. It stocks most of the big sportswear names in one place, adds colourways marked JD Exclusive, runs frequent checkout codes and two-for deals, and has shops across the UK for try-ons and quicker in-store refunds. Its Trustpilot score was 3.8 out of 5 from about 365,000 reviews when we read it, well above River Island’s and New Look’s.
The recent one- and two-star reviews still repeat: trainers arriving in damaged or unsealed boxes, parcels that never came, the JD Status app refusing log-ins, and slow refunds. Online orders can only be refunded, never exchanged. If you want a specific Nike or adidas model and are not chasing a JD exclusive, the brands’ own sites are worth comparing on price and returns.
Choosing the right one
1Look at who ships the order
JD’s returns FAQ names adidas, Reebok, Under Armour, Timberland, Vans and The North Face as brand partners that may deliver directly. Those parcels come with the brand’s own free returns label and cannot be returned to a JD store, and refunds can take up to 14 days after the brand receives them. Nike-fulfilled orders can come back to JD. Keep the despatch note until you are sure.
2Treat review stars with care
Many JD product pages have no reviews at all, and some show a rating built from reviews written on nike.com or JD’s Canadian site, sometimes about another version of the shoe. Open the review list and read where each was posted before you trust the average. For fit, the model’s height, chest and size in the description is often the most useful line on the page.
3Time the order around codes and thresholds
Standard delivery is free over £80 and next-day over £120, and JD runs 20% off at checkout on selected lines and multi-buy deals such as two for £60. JD Status members get 10% back in JD Cash on a first purchase. A hoodie and a pair of trainers in one basket usually clears the free-delivery line; a single item rarely does.

Usually, yes, and JD says it is the faster way to a refund: take the items and the despatch email or note to a UK JD store. The exception is anything shipped directly by adidas, Reebok, Under Armour, Timberland, Vans or The North Face, which must go back to that brand’s warehouse with the label in the parcel. Swimwear can only go back to a store, with its hygiene seal intact.
Can I exchange trainers for a different size at JD?
Not on an online order. JD’s FAQs say online orders can only be refunded, so the quickest route to a different size is to return the first pair in a shop and reorder, or buy the new size in store if it is in stock. If the right size matters for a gift, try the shoe on in a JD store before ordering online.
What does JD Exclusive mean?
It marks a product or colourway JD says you will only find there, such as the black Air Force 1 Low and ASICS GEL-NYC in this guide, or The North Face Kanaga jacket. It does not mean a different factory or a better build: the specs are the brand’s. The appeal is mainly that fewer people will own the same thing.
Is JD Status worth joining?
If you shop at JD more than once or twice a year, probably. Members get 10% of a first purchase back as JD Cash, and JD runs member offer weeks. The catch, judging by recent Trustpilot complaints, is the app: several members say they earned JD Cash and then could not log in to spend it.
Alternatives worth a look
Sports Direct is the other big UK sportswear chain, worth comparing on price for the same Nike and adidas lines.
Nike sells its own range direct, worth checking when you want a standard model rather than a JD exclusive.
