Hush is the relaxed, weekend-leaning British label known for soft knits, wide-leg jeans and loungewear. It suits women who dress for comfort but still want things to look considered, and who do not mind paying a little more than the high street.

This guide picks six things from the UK range, chosen for the strength of their review record: a coat, two jumpers, jeans, trousers and joggers. The common thread in the critical reviews is sizing. Several pieces come up large, and buyers report the same style fitting differently from one colour to the next. Because returns cost £1.95 and there are no exchanges, it pays to read each page’s fit line first.

Pure Wool Double Faced Coat

This is the Hush buy with the strongest reviews for the money. It is 100% wool, double-faced so both sides are finished and there is no separate lining, cut relaxed with dropped shoulders and wide lapels, and 115cm long in size S/M. Sizes run in doubles, from XS/S to L/XL. Reviews averaged 4.7 from 53, and several buyers mention how hard it is to find a pure wool coat without a polyester lining at this price.

The criticism is about size and structure. One buyer was swamped by it, another found the cut unflattering, and a third returned it because the combination of an oversized shape and fairly thin double-faced cloth made her doubt it would keep its shape. Even a happy reviewer said she probably should have sized down. The label says do not wash.

Pick it if

  • You want pure wool without a synthetic lining
  • You like room for a chunky jumper underneath

Pass if

  • You are petite and prefer a fitted coat
  • You want something you can wash at home

Nessa Wide Leg Jeans

Hush’s best-known jeans: a high-waisted, full-length wide leg in stretch denim, with 360 reviews for the dark indigo alone.

The Nessa is the Hush jean most people come for. The dark indigo pair sits at the waist and falls into a full-length wide leg, in 99% cotton and 1% elastane, with a zip fly and a fit the page describes as not roomy, not tight. It comes in short, regular and tall lengths, with a 75cm inside leg for short and 80cm for regular. Reviews averaged 4.3 from 360, and many owners have several pairs.

That loyalty is also where the complaints start. Long-standing Nessa buyers say this colour came up far tighter than their other pairs, that one size 12 was smaller than last year’s 10, and that none of several sizes fitted. One called Hush sizing a mystery. If you own a pair, do not assume a new colour will match.

Pick it if

  • You want a dark wide-leg jean for the office
  • You need a short length option

Pass if

  • You want to reorder your usual size without trying

Cora Relaxed Chunky Cashmere Crew Jumper

A chunky-stitch pure cashmere crew neck with a relaxed, slightly cropped shape, rated 4.8 from 100 reviews.

The Cora is Hush’s signature cashmere: 100% cashmere in a chunky stitch, with dropped shoulders, ribbed trims and a deliberately shorter body (57cm in S/M) meant to sit over high-waisted trousers and jeans. Reviews averaged 4.8 from 100, and buyers keep returning to the words soft, thick and cosy. A funnel-neck version, in bright red at £275, uses the same Cora name.

At this price the criticisms matter. One buyer found it started to bobble after three wears and decided not to buy other colours. Two others found it shorter and boxier than expected, and one owner said her second colour fitted nothing like her first, even after three sizes. If you want a long, slouchy jumper, this is the wrong shape.

Pick it if

  • You want thick cashmere rather than a fine knit
  • You wear high-waisted trousers

Pass if

  • You want a long, slouchy length
  • Bobbling would annoy you at this price

Jack Barrel Leg Pull On Trousers

The Jack takes the curved barrel-leg jean shape and turns it into a pull-on trouser. It is 100% washed cotton with an elasticated, gathered waist, a single button, front hip pockets and a 67cm inside leg in size S. The page calls the fit oversized and says to take your usual size. Reviews for the slate black pair averaged 4.4 from 89, and fans say they barely take them off.

The low ratings point to real problems. Several buyers say they come up big, and others who sized down found the single-button fastening strained, with one seam ripping within weeks. Owners of embroidered colours report rough thread inside that left their legs red. One long-time owner felt the cut and quality had slipped, and another found them creased however she ironed.

Pick it if

  • You want jean-like shape with an elastic waist
  • You like a relaxed, wide silhouette

Pass if

  • You want a crisp, pressed trouser
  • You are considering an embroidered colour

Elle Supersoft Wide Leg Joggers

Soft draping jersey joggers with a drawstring waist and wide leg, the cheapest well-reviewed thing on this list.

The Elle joggers are the easiest way into Hush. They are made from a soft, draping jersey (77% Lenzing Ecovero viscose, 20% polyester, 3% elastane) with an elasticated drawcord waist, side pockets, a mid-rise and a relaxed wide leg. The inside leg is 72cm in size S. Reviews for the midnight navy pair averaged 4.7 from 99, and they sell alongside a matching top.

The weak points are durability and length. One buyer said they shed fluff until the third wash; another said they bobbled terribly after two wears and are now house trousers only. One pair arrived with a small hole by the seam, and another had one leg noticeably longer than the other. Women of 5ft 8in and 5ft 9in found them too short.

Pick it if

  • You want soft joggers that look neat enough for the school run
  • You are petite to average height

Pass if

  • You are tall
  • You want joggers that stay smooth for years

Meryl Wool Blend Roll Neck Jumper

A long, relaxed roll neck in a machine-washable wool blend, a long-running Hush style rated 4.7 from 51.

The Meryl is a Hush perennial: a relaxed roll neck with dropped shoulders, longer sleeves and a 70cm body in size S/M, long enough to wear over leggings or a slip dress. Read the label before assuming it is a wool jumper. It is 41% wool, 36% acrylic, 21% polyamide and 2% elastane, which is why it can go in the machine at 30C. Reviews for the dark brown averaged 4.7 from 51.

Its critics agree on size. One buyer, a size 10, was swamped by the S/M; another recommended sizing down after a couple of attempts. A long-time owner said the fabric had become thinner and the sizing baggier over the years, and returned this one.

Pick it if

  • You want a long jumper you can machine wash
  • You like a roomy, slouchy fit

Pass if

  • You want pure wool
  • You prefer a close fit and are between sizes

Where Hush wins, and where rivals do

Hush’s strength is the relaxed middle ground. Its best pieces are easy shapes in good fabric: a pure wool coat without a synthetic lining, thick cashmere, wide-leg denim with three lengths. Review scores on its own site are high, and product pages give garment lengths and fit notes that help.

The service around the clothes is weaker. Returns cost £1.95, there are no exchanges, and price drops are not refunded. Its Trustpilot score was 3.1 from about 990 reviews when we read it, and recent low ratings mention phone lines that are hard to reach, Evri parcels that never arrived and slow refunds. Toast costs more but offers free returns and free repairs; Boden is cheaper with a bigger range.

Working out which one is yours

1Check the fit line before the size

Hush product pages say whether a piece is regular, relaxed or oversized, and several reviews suggest taking that seriously. The Jack trousers and the Meryl roll neck both draw comments about coming up big, while the Pure Wool coat is cut relaxed and swamped at least one buyer. Most knits and coats come in double sizes such as S/M, so if you are between them, the reviews lean towards the smaller one.

2Do not assume colours match

The most consistent complaint across Hush reviews is that the same style fits differently in a new colour or a new season. Nessa owners report a new pair fitting tighter than their existing ones, and a Cora cashmere buyer needed three attempts at a second colour. When reordering a favourite, read the newest reviews for that exact colour and order early enough to return within 28 days.

3Read the composition

Hush names vary in how much they tell you. The Pure Wool coat and the Cora are exactly what they say. The Meryl is described as wool-rich but is 41% wool with acrylic and polyamide, which makes it easier to wash and cheaper. The Elle joggers are mostly viscose, soft but prone to bobbling according to reviews. Neither approach is wrong, but check the fabric line before you compare prices.

FAQs

Does Hush sizing run large?

For many pieces, yes. The Jack trousers are labelled oversized and reviewers say they come up big; the Meryl roll neck and the Pure Wool coat draw the same comment. Jeans are less predictable: some Nessa owners found a new colour tighter than their old pairs. Read the fit line on the product page and the newest reviews for your colour before choosing a size.

Are Hush returns free?

No. Hush deducts £1.95 from your refund to cover return postage, and there is no home collection. Full-price items can be returned within 28 days; for online sale purchases you have 14 days to tell Hush and a further 14 to send them. There are no exchanges, so return the item and reorder the new size.

Can I exchange a Hush item for a different size?

Not directly. Hush does not offer exchanges, so the route is to return the original through the online returns portal, paying the £1.95 postage charge, and place a new order. If the size you want is popular, order it before the return reaches the warehouse, since out-of-stock items are not usually restocked.

How do I contact Hush customer service?

The help centre lists live chat and email, with the customer service team working Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, excluding bank holidays. A phone number, 0330 678 1468, is given for payment problems between 9am and 11am. Recent Trustpilot reviews complain about how hard it is to get through, so keep your order number to hand.

If Hush isn't for you
