Antler has made luggage in England since 1914 and now sells mostly hard-shell spinner cases in colours you can spot on a carousel: Antler Green, Indigo Blue, Taupe. It suits travellers who want a well-organised case from a British name and will pay above department-store own brands for it.

This guide picks seven cases and bags across the ranges, with the weights and packing capacities Antler lists. The headline advice: buy for the design and build, not the warranty. The lifetime warranty covers manufacturing faults, but not the baggage-handler damage that kills most suitcases, and claims mean paying to send the case in. Register within 30 days, and look for a set or sale price before paying full price.

1Best overall

Icon Stripe Medium Suitcase

Antler’s flagship hard case in recycled polycarbonate, with an expander, spinner wheels and an organised interior, sized for trips of two to seven days.

The Icon Stripe is the range most people mean when they say Antler, and the medium is its most useful size. The shell is recycled polycarbonate with the raised stripe; inside, the lining is fully recycled with double-zip pockets and a compression strap. The expander zip adds 5cm of depth, taking capacity from 81.5 to 90 litres, and it runs on Antler’s Silent Glide 360 spinner wheels. It weighs 3.9kg.

The on-site reviews are unusually glowing (more than a thousand, and none we could find below four stars), so look elsewhere for the weaknesses. One reviewer found the indigo greener than the photos. Antler’s one-star Trustpilot reviews describe handles snapping and wheels cracking, with warranty claims refused as mishandling or wear and tear.

Good for you if

  • You want one checked case for most holidays
  • You like a case you can spot on the carousel

Not for you if

  • You expect the warranty to cover airline damage

Single Stripe Suitcase Set

Cabin, medium and large cases in polypropylene, sold together at a set price that was well below the separate prices when we checked.

If you need a full set, this is the cheapest sensible way into Antler. The Single Stripe is the polypropylene range, lighter and less expensive than the Icon Stripe, with recycled linings, packing straps and dividers. The set includes a cabin (2.6kg, 55 x 40 x 20cm), a medium (3.6kg) and a large (4.6kg, 144 litres). When we checked, the Antler Green set was £420, marked down from £600, with sets across the site at 30% off.

Polypropylene is the weakness. One recent Trustpilot reviewer said the case gets scratches so easily and does not feel luxury, and Antler’s reply confirmed the material. Note too that the warranty excludes items bought as a set where the matching product is not damaged: each case is judged on its own.

Good for you if

  • You need cabin, medium and large in one go
  • You fly a few times a year rather than monthly

Not for you if

  • Scuffs on the shell will bother you
  • You only need one case
3Best for work trips

Icon Stripe Cabin with Pocket Suitcase

The front pocket is the point. It opens from the front, has tech compartments for a laptop up to 16 inches, and leaves the 47.7-litre main compartment free for clothes. Antler says the case is designed to comply with major European airline size limits; it measures 55 x 40 x 24cm and weighs 3.16kg, so check your own airline’s cabin allowance, wheels included.

Front-pocket cabin cases attract specific grumbles in Antler’s reviews: a pocket that cannot be locked with the laptop inside, a pocket zip that sits awkwardly close to the main zip, and rolling that is less smooth on escalators and uneven ground. Separately, one reviewer this month said an Antler expandable cabin case failed several airlines’ sizers. This one has no expander, which helps.

Good for you if

  • You travel with a laptop and hate unpacking at security
  • You fly full-service airlines with generous cabin bags

Not for you if

  • You fly budget airlines with a strict small-bag rule
  • You want the pocket to lock
4Best for light packing

Soft Stripe 2.0 Lightest Medium Suitcase

A soft-shell medium in recycled polyester that weighs 2.4kg, leaving more of your allowance for what goes inside.

Soft Stripe 2.0 is the update to Antler’s bestselling soft case: 100% recycled polyester inside and out, a reworked front pocket, 360-degree spinner wheels, a lightweight handle and an expander. The medium holds 74 litres at 2.4kg, which is 1.5kg less than the Icon Stripe medium. On a 20kg or 23kg allowance that is a pair of shoes and a jumper.

The weakness is toughness, and the reviews are blunt. Trustpilot reviewers this year describe a Soft Stripe 2.0 torn after one trip abroad, a large one ripped on its second use, an extending handle that failed inside two years and a shell badly marked on first use. Claims for rips are typically refused as airline damage, which the warranty excludes.

Good for you if

  • Every kilo of allowance matters to you
  • You like a case with some give for overfilling

Not for you if

  • You check bags on busy routes and want protection
5Best for rail journeys

Icon Stripe Dual Opening Medium Suitcase

The Icon Stripe medium with a front-opening panel, so you can get at your things without laying the whole case flat.

Antler’s newest variation on its bestseller keeps the clamshell but adds a front-access panel, which matters in a train aisle, a cramped hotel room or a busy station. A zipped mesh divider and pockets hold things in place whichever way you open it, and a dual-lock system lets you secure both compartments together or separately. Antler calls the shell its strongest polycarbonate, with Silent Glide 360 spinner wheels, and lists 82 litres of packing space.

The cost is weight and price. At 4.4kg it is half a kilo heavier than the standard Icon Stripe medium and £40 dearer. It is also new enough that we found no Trustpilot reviews mentioning a dual-opening case, so there is little evidence yet on how the extra zip and lock hold up.

Good for you if

  • You travel by train or live out of the case
  • You want to reach things without unpacking

Not for you if

  • Weight allowance is tight
  • You prefer a design with a long track record

Heritage Stripe Medium Suitcase

The Heritage Stripe is the top of Antler’s range and its answer to the framed aluminium cases of pricier rivals. Antler describes it as hand-built, with polycarbonate panels on a lightweight aluminium frame, reinforced corners, a double-latch closure with integrated TSA-approved locks, soft-close handles and replaceable wheels. The medium is sized for one- to two-week holidays, with 77 litres of packing space.

Its weaknesses are practical. At 4.7kg it is the heaviest medium here, and a framed case with latches cannot be squeezed shut over an extra jumper the way a zipped one can. We found only praise for the range on Trustpilot, but very little of it, so the evidence on long-term wear is thin.

Good for you if

  • You want a latch closure rather than a zip
  • You value replaceable wheels

Not for you if

  • You routinely overpack
  • Every kilo of allowance counts

Discovery Wheeled Duffel

A hard-backed, fabric-fronted wheeled holdall with oversized rubber wheels, which Antler calls its first hybrid holdall.

The Discovery Wheeled Duffel is for trips where a spinner case struggles: cobbles, gravel, station steps. The back is a hard shell that resists scuffs; the front is water-repellent recycled fabric that flexes for packing, with compression straps, a deep drop pocket, a side pocket and an internal divider. Two oversized rubber wheels replace the four spinners. It holds 80 litres and weighs 3.742kg.

There are few reviews to go on. One Trustpilot reviewer chose a rival because it was slightly bigger, and another thought a two-wheeled duffel not as good as expected. Check warranty cover before you buy: the product page lists the lifetime warranty, but Antler’s warranty text speaks of suitcases, and it has told a backpack buyer that bags are not specifically covered.

Good for you if

  • Your trips involve cobbles, gravel or kerbs
  • You like a soft front that takes awkward shapes

Not for you if

  • You want a case that glides beside you on four wheels

How to choose

1Polycarbonate, polypropylene or fabric

Antler’s ranges split by shell. Icon Stripe and Heritage Stripe use polycarbonate, which flexes under impact. Single Stripe uses polypropylene, which is cheaper and light but scratches readily. Soft Stripe 2.0 is recycled polyester, the lightest of all, but the most likely to tear, judging by the one-star reviews. Decide how rough your trips are, and whether your cases go in the hold or the overhead locker, before you decide on colour.

2Check weight against your allowance

Antler lists weights on every product page, and the spread is wide. Among the mediums here, Soft Stripe 2.0 weighs 2.4kg, Icon Stripe 3.9kg, Dual Opening 4.4kg and Heritage Stripe 4.7kg. On a 20kg hold allowance the lightest leaves you more than two kilos extra for packing. For cabin cases, measure your airline’s limits against Antler’s stated dimensions, and keep any expander zipped.

3Read the warranty before relying on it

The lifetime warranty applies to purchases from 11 May 2023 and needs online registration within 30 days, plus proof of purchase. It covers defective materials and workmanship only. It excludes mishandling by airline handlers (rips, scratches, dents, cracks, sheared wheels, bent handles) and wear and tear, and you pay shipping to the repair centre before anyone decides. Put the case on your travel insurance too.

4Buy sets and sale prices

Antler discounts often. When we checked, all luggage sets were 30% off, and the product pages offered 15% off a bespoke set of separately chosen cases. If you need more than one size, building a set almost always beats buying singles at full price. The Single Stripe set we list was £420 against a £600 regular price. A student and youth discount is also linked from the site footer, so check whether it applies to you before you check out.

Antler against the rest

Antler’s case rests on design and service. The colours and stripes are distinctive, the interiors are well thought out, and buying is easy: free standard delivery on luggage, free collected returns within 28 days, and a flagship shop on Regent Street with click and collect. On Trustpilot it was rated Excellent on nearly 5,000 reviews when we checked, and it replies to most negative ones.

But the one-star share is higher than the score suggests, and it is mostly about durability and refused warranty claims. Samsonite offers more sizes and a longer warranty track record, John Lewis own-brand cases cost less and come with a shop to take them back to, and Rimowa does the framed aluminium case with decades more practice. Antler also has no customer phone line, which several reviewers mention.

FAQs

Does Antler’s lifetime warranty cover airline damage?

No. The warranty page lists mishandling by airline baggage handlers, including rips, scratches, dents, cracks, sheared-off wheels and bent handles, as excluded, along with general wear and tear. It covers faults caused by defective materials or workmanship, and the case must be sent, at your cost, to a repair centre for inspection. Travel insurance is the cover for airline damage.

Is an Antler cabin case allowed on budget airlines?

Check the measurements against your airline. Antler’s standard cabin cases measure 55 x 40 x 20cm and the Cabin with Pocket 55 x 40 x 24cm; most budget airlines’ free under-seat bag is far smaller, and paid cabin allowances vary. One recent reviewer said an expandable Antler cabin case failed several airlines’ sizers, so keep the expander closed.

Can I phone Antler customer service?

Not on the published contact details we read. The contact page offers a form and email, staffed Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm, with replies aimed at within 24 hours; the delivery and returns pages say 48 hours. Several one-star Trustpilot reviewers this month complained about the lack of a phone line.

Why are Antler’s own product reviews so positive?

We cannot say how they are collected or moderated. The Icon Stripe medium showed more than a thousand on-site reviews when we checked, all at four or five stars, while Trustpilot showed 13% of Antler’s reviews at one star. Read both, and weight the independent platform more heavily for durability.

Rivals worth a look

  • Samsonite covers the same ground with a larger range and more cabin sizes, at similar or higher prices.
  • John Lewis own-brand cases cost less and come with a shop to return them to if something fails.
