Neptune, read closely: oak, linen and a lifetime guarantee, delivered by a firm that keeps people waiting
The Wiltshire furniture maker sells a calm, expensive version of the English country house, now backed by a lifetime guarantee. The furniture earns it. The small print and the delivery schedule deserve a slower read.

In brief
Yes, for furniture you mean to keep for twenty years, with your eyes open about the logistics. Neptune makes solid oak tables, linen-covered sofas and painted kitchens that look as though they came with the house, and since April 2025 its new furniture has carried a lifetime guarantee on the structural parts.1 The returns policy is fair on stock pieces and unforgiving on anything made or painted to order.2 The accessories are pleasant and overpriced. The delivery, on the evidence of recent reviews, is where the patience goes.
What they get right
The furniture is properly built, and the product pages say how, which is rarer than it should be. The Olivia sofa is described down to its kiln-dried tulipwood and birch-ply frame and its reinforced halving joints; the Arundel tables are solid oak, wire-brushed to raise the grain; the Chichester butchers block has an end-grain oak top that lifts out of its painted base so it can be scrubbed at the sink. That is the language of a company that expects its customers to ask what is underneath, and has decided to tell them before they do. The look is consistent across the rooms, so a dresser bought this year will sit happily beside a table bought in ten.
A furniture shop that would rather mend a chair than sell you another one is making a bet on its own joinery.
Then there is the guarantee, which is the most interesting thing Neptune has done in years. Every structural element of its indoor furniture is covered for life: frames, joints, hinges, handles, and the frames and springs of the sofas. Fabric and cushion inners get three years, garden furniture five.1 No registration is needed, only the receipt, and the guarantee follows you if you move house. Neptune also promises to repair before it replaces, using its own workshop in Wiltshire. A furniture shop that would rather mend a chair than sell you another one is making a bet on its own joinery. It is a bet the customer can only win.
The third argument is Renewed, a standing collection of ex-display pieces, photoshoot samples and customer returns, restored in the same Wiltshire workshop and sold for less.3 At the time of reading it held Arundel and Balmoral oak tables, a Shoreditch armchair and an Olivia loveseat in denim linen, among others. Renewed pieces carry the lifetime guarantee and, unusually, can be returned like new ones rather than treated as sale stock. For a buyer who does not mind a hairline scratch in exchange for a meaningful reduction, it is the best page on the site.
Reservations
Read the guarantee to the end and it narrows. It covers the original owner only, in a private home in the country of purchase; a rented flat or an Airbnb is out. Anything bought from the Neptune Outlet is excluded, and so is an item that someone other than Neptune has repaired. If a piece cannot be mended, Neptune reserves the right to replace it with Outlet stock “of a similar age and condition”, which is a fair clause and a slightly deflating one.1 Furniture bought more than five years before the scheme began sits outside it altogether, as at least one owner of a decade-old Olivia sofa discovered on Trustpilot this autumn.4 Lifetime, in other words, has a start date.
One slow lampshade can hold up a sideboard. Allow for that, and do not book the dinner party.
The larger problem is getting the furniture to the house. Neptune’s overall Trustpilot rating is very high, but the one-star reviews from the last few months read like a single long complaint about delivery: orders weeks late, courier parcels that failed twice, no updates, compensation promised and not paid.4 The delivery page itself warns that the clock on its own two-person service starts only when the last item reaches the warehouse, and that large orders usually ship whole.2 One slow lampshade can hold up a sideboard. Allow for that, and do not book the dinner party.
The accessories are the weak flank. Neptune sells candles, soap, glassware, baubles and faux flowers in quantity, and they are nicely chosen, but they are other people’s products at a furniture-shop mark-up, and the complaints about them (chipped baubles, a disappointing bar of soap in excessive packaging) are oddly persistent for such small things.4 The courier charge for returning a parcel also makes a mistake on a lamp an expensive one.2 None of it is ruinous, but it adds up to a sense that the small things are an afterthought. Buy the table here and the tea lights at the supermarket.
The range, read closely
Oak dining tables and chairs Our choice The core of the shop, and the range where Neptune’s prose is most specific. Arundel is a trestle shape in wire-brushed solid oak; Sheldrake and Harrogate extend for Christmas; Stratford and Wycombe come round or oval for kitchens that are not quite wide enough. The chairs run from plain oak through Lloyd Loom (the Havana, with a skirt that still leaves room for your knees) to linen and leather. All the tables fall under the lifetime guarantee. The weakness is weight and timing: these arrive on the two-person service, on a date Neptune sets, and a missing chair can hold up the table.
Sofas: Long Island, Olivia, Eliza and George Our choice The upholstery is handsome in an unshowy way: deep seats, linen loose covers held on with hidden toggles, oak legs on brass castors for the Olivia. Most shapes come in several sizes and a long list of fabrics, and a shorter quick-delivery edit spares you the made-to-order wait. Fabric and cushions carry three years rather than the lifetime cover, and one Trustpilot reviewer reported a footstool cushion losing its shape within six months.4 Note too that a made-to-order sofa can be cancelled only within seven days of ordering, after which it is yours.2 Order the fabric samples first.
Kitchens and freestanding kitchen pieces Also considered Neptune’s fitted kitchens (Chichester, Henley, Suffolk, Borough and others) are designed by its own designers after a free consultation and a home visit, and the kitchen guarantee applies only if Neptune’s fitters install it.5 That is a sensible bargain and also a way of keeping the installation business in-house. The freestanding pieces are the easier entry: larders, islands and butchers blocks that need no fitter and leave with you if you move. The Suffolk larder has an oak interior with zig-zag shelving and is lovely. Painted pieces can only be cancelled up to four weeks before delivery.
Neptune Renewed Our choice Restored ex-display pieces, returns and photoshoot samples, each checked in the Wiltshire workshop and covered by the same lifetime guarantee as new furniture.3 The selection is small and changes constantly, so it suits someone who knows what they want and can wait for it to appear; there is no way to order a Renewed piece in a different finish. Neptune is candid that some pieces show small scratches, hairline cracks or paint chips. It is not the same thing as the Outlet, whose stock is excluded from the guarantee, and the two are worth keeping straight.
Accessories, candles and Christmas Not for us Pretty, broad and the least convincing part of Neptune. The candles, glassware, throws, baubles and hampers are well chosen to sit with the furniture, but there is little here you could not find elsewhere for less, and little that Neptune designs with the care it puts into a table. The complaints are about breakage, packaging and courier failures rather than design.4 Some candles and fragrances cannot be sent to Northern Ireland at all.2 They are pleasant to add to a furniture order. As a destination in their own right they are not.
Ordering, delivery and returns
Neptune sells through its website, by phone and from a substantial chain of its own shops, and the shops are where the design advice lives. Small items travel by courier and are free over a modest threshold, with a next-day option for mainland addresses.2 Furniture goes on Neptune’s own vans in three tiers (standard, premium and project), each with a flat charge, and the charges for the Highlands and the Scottish islands run into four figures. Returns are accepted within twenty-eight days if the item is unused and in its packaging, but the return is not free: courier parcels are collected for a charge, and on furniture Neptune keeps the original delivery fee and charges the same again to collect, unless you refuse the piece at the door.2 One small oddity: the delivery page and the guarantee terms quoted different collection charges for the premium and project tiers when we read them.1 Customer service answers the phone seven days a week, and the shop staff draw consistent praise.
Verdict
Neptune makes some of the best mid-to-high-end furniture sold in Britain, and the lifetime guarantee has turned a good reputation into a written undertaking. The oak tables, the sofas and the Renewed pages are the reasons to buy. The accessories are the reason to stop at the furniture, and the delivery is the reason to start early. Returns are honest but not cheap. Buy from Neptune for the pieces you mean to keep, keep the receipt somewhere you will find it in twenty years, and order well before you need them.
